Students in my Spanish classes can expect-
Additional Help Outside of Class
Teachers are available to give any Spanish student additional help. Señora Jones is available most mornings after 7:00. Señora Brown and Señora Koeneman are available after school most days until 4:00. Students can see ANY of the teachers for assistance. Students can also arrange for a Spanish 3 or 4 student to tutor them. Additionally, WHS provides regular tutoring sessions in Spanish. Students can attend Spanish tutoring from 3-4pm on Tuesday in Sra. Brown's room and Thursday in Sra. Jones or Koeneman's room (alternates weekly). Students can use this time to receive individualized help, make up missed work due to absences, or simply use this time to complete assignments.

Quia.com
Students will have a login and password to access assignments given on this site. This site has games, quizzes and other types of practice. We use this site extensively. Students will be given homework assignments to complete via computer on a regular basis and should make arrangements to ensure their completion. To receive credit, students must complete practice quizzes to a level of 85% accuracy or better. Quizzes will also be taken on Quia.
Google Classroom
This site is connected to student's school email accounts and will be the place they will submit assignments electronically. Electronic assignments WILL NOT be accepted via e-mail. Assignments given in G.C. must be submitted in G.C.
Remind App
Remind is an app that I will use to send out occasional reminders about assignments and big projects or to notify students of changes to class.
Duolingo
This app is a Spanish learning tool that we have incorporated into our curriculum. Each semester, students in Spanish 1-3 are given a Duolingo assignment. This assignment is due at the end of the semester, but students should be working on it regularly as time permits throughout the semester.
Quizlet.com (optional)
This site allows students to make flashcards (or view flashcards made by others) and play games for vocabulary study and memorization. Vocabulary is the basis of a language and memorizing it is critical to a student’s success. No login or password is required.
Parent/Teacher Communication
Skyward: The login is your child’s first name.last name, and the password is your child’s 8 digit birthday. (Ex: john.smith 03152001) The password can be changed after the initial login. This is the grading system adopted by our district. Several grades will be given each week. Please check your student’s grades frequently. Students are expected to participate in class everyday and to bring all supplies to class.

ACADEMIC EXPECTATIONS
UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIORS
The following behaviors are unacceptable at all times: copying quiz or test answers, copying binder work, copying homework, giving answers to classmates, using another person’s work, doing individual assignments in groups, , or copying parts or complete texts on research assignments from web or book sources without documentation (plagiarism), abusing the use of translation devices (appropriate use of translation devices is allowed, but is limited to no more than 3 new words per assignment).
For all incidents regarding behavior, the consequence will reflect the severity of the situation as deemed appropriate by me. These consequences may include: zero on assignment, detention with me, referral to office, phone call / conference with parent, etc.
CLASS PARTICIPATION PROCEDURES
Class Participation is essential to achieve the maximum benefits of this class. Class participation is factored in each quarter and is graded daily on Attendance / Promptness, Level of Engagement In Class, Listening Skills, Behavior, and Preparation. I will keep track of your participation throughout the quarter and add/subtract as applicable. Essentially, I expect you to be engaged and contribute to our class time in a positive manner on a daily basis. Any student who receives 10 negative points in a semester will earn a referral for a detention. For every 5 negative points beyond that (within the same semester), additional referrals will be earned. Negative behaviors can include any actions that disrupt the smooth flow of class.
- an exciting, interactive, challenging classroom environment
- daily homework or review
- opportunities to speak, read, write, or listen in Spanish or to learn about the culture and geography of Spanish speaking countries
- a safe place to grow as a learner (nobody's perfect the first time at anything!)

- All school policies and procedures apply in this room (language, dress, phones...)
- RESPECT others, their belongings, their space and their opinions
- Be in your seat BEFORE the bell rings and remain there until I dismiss you.

ACADEMIC EXPECTATIONS
- DAILY HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS will NOT be accepted late without a note from your parent explaining an acceptable reason you were unable to complete the assignment – otherwise you earn a zero. Homework must be complete BEFORE the bell rings. If you are working on it after the bell, you earn a zero. If the assignment is a practice quiz on quia.com, you must complete it with 85% accuracy to receive credit. You can resubmit your answers as often as needed to meet the 85% requirement.
- WRITING ASSIGNMENTS, PROJECTS, etc. will be docked a letter grade for each class period they are late. This includes e-mailed projects that do not reach me by your class period on the due date.
- If you know in advance you will miss class, you MUST get assignments and arrange quiz make-up before your absence. Failure to do so will result in a zero on homework and a letter grade drop on quizzes, tests, and projects for each day they are late!
- Unless you are absent on test / quiz day you will take the assessment as scheduled. If you choose not to do so, you will take a letter grade drop for each day you are late making it up.
- Missed assignments, quizzes, etc. must be completed promptly. You will have the same number of days you were absent to complete missed work. You are responsible for getting information about these assignments, getting copies of handouts, and taking the initiative to complete missed homework and quizzes/tests in a timely manner. If you do not, you will earn zeros or letter grade drops for each day you are tardy in completing them.
